The Zeitz Foundation has an exciting vision that drives us to grow the global alliance of Long Run Destinations (LRDs), to involve more ‘influencers’ around the world, and to enter into new collaborations with partners who have similar objectives.
Our objectives in the next five years are to expand and strengthen the Laikipia Programme and the Long Run Initiative membership and activities. .
We are also looking at creating new categories for membership in the Long Run Initiative to enble us to reach out to more people and institutions. With this in mind, we believe Long Run Destinations are not only places that work on sustainable, mostly tourism-driven enterprises, whilst fostering community development and cultural stewardship, but also locations that apply the 4Cs in a broader way. Contact us to share your thoughts and tell us where you see the 4Cs on the ground around you!
The foundation has also expanded its programme around Greater Segera to include the Laikipia Unity Programme, which is an integrated and region-wide program to cultivate peace improve standards of living – particularly for women and youth - and promote environmentally sustainable livelihoods across Laikipia County in Kenya using the powerful and unifying medium of football as a catalyst.
Other programmes include the Laikipia Unity and Land Initiative, which addresses social, economic and environmental issues facing ‘contested land’ in Laikipia County, Kenya and the tens of thousands of people who inhabit them; as well as the Greater Segera 4Cs programme that is involved in the development of alternative sustainable livelihoods, reafforestation, environmental education, piloting new and appropriate water, energy and agriculture technologies and stengthening local natural resource management governance systems. We are also involved in species conservation projects, focusing on Lion, Wilddog, Cheetah and Patas Monkeys throughout Laikipia.
The Zeitz Foundation is also developoing new mechanisms for private sector financing as payments for ecosystems services with LRDs.
