Call For Comments On The GER® Standard

The Long Run Initiative announces the beginning of a one month public consultation process of the Global Ecosphere Retreats® (GER) Standard. We are reaching out to our stakeholders and all our valued members and supporters, to ensure the revised standard reflects your aspiration and expectation from Long Run Iniative as a leading global sustainability initiative. We request your comments and input. We hope you will find the time to do so before 15th of July 2014.

The Global Ecosphere Retreats® (GER) Standard is a key component of the Long Run Initiative to measure and encourage member destinations on the path to excellence in sustainability. It has been under implementation for the past nearly 5 years involving mostly the assessment and accreditation of the founding destinations. Two key lessons from the implementation experience are (a) GER® is one of the most rigorous and comprehensive standard systems that accounts for its growing recognition in the market place, and (b) the system can be further improved by sharpening the definition and focus of the assessment criteria.

Therefore, beginning last year, we partnered with a Danish based non-profit organization called NEPCon to review and revise the GER® Standard, retaining and further strengthening its content and rigor while clarifying its assessment framework to make it more objectively verifiable.  We are grateful to NEPCon for their collaboration and support in this effort.

The result is a revised draft standard that is attached herewith and available online here. This letter marks the beginning of a one-month public consultation process. We are reaching out to our stakeholders and all our valued members and supporters, to ensure the revised standard reflects your aspiration and expectation from LRI as a leading global sustainability initiative. We request your comments and input. We hope you will find the time to do so before 15th of July 2014. We will immensely value it.

The revised standard will also entail changes in the process of engagement with our members around the technical assistance and assessment. The aim will be to make the technical assistance more effective.  We will be in touch with you on that separately in due course.

We look forward to your thoughts and input. Please send us comments by email to delphine@zeitzfoundation.org and don’t hesitate to contact us for any further clarifications you need.
